OMG so amateur, but photos no less.

I often find myself in awe of nature, and have to take pictures no matter how poor a photographer I am. Things like turtles sunning themselves on a log, Mother Nature taking her revenge on my ignorant neighbors, and apples shaped like asses inspire me to whip out the camera and snap away. And now, because I am silly (and I finally got around to plugging my camera in and unloading the photos from it) I will share these with you. Click on the images for the slightly-larger versions.

My neighbors are idiots. They stopped up a river so they could have a pretty pond in their front yard (which I'm pretty sure isn't just stupid, but also illegal). Therefore I do not feel any pity whatsoever when, every damn spring, Mother Nature laughs in their faces, calls them douchebags, and makes them have to rebuild their driveway after she's done making it into a waterfall and their lawn into a small lake. Observe:

It was pretty windy, so that was, sadly, the least blurry of the photos I took while trying not to fall over in my driveway.

Today, driving home from town I saw what looked like six or seven shiny stones on a log in a stream. Turtles! I love turtles. I went to the trouble of turning around and pulling over to snap some pictures, but when I got out of the car, all but one dived into the water. I took a few pictures, and while I was snapping away, one of them came back. I'm actually pretty proud of this one. The first dude is all, "I like the sun, man. That water's cold," and the second dude is like, "You're not kidding! I was in there for, like, two minutes and I was like, 'fuck this shit, I like sunning myself!' Hey, what's going on over there?" and stretching to look at me or something.

This one is just for chuckles. It's not really that great a likeness, but when my mom and I saw this apple we decided it looked like a butt, and nobody was allowed to eat it until I'd taken pictures. Also verboten? Saying "This tastes like ass, dude," when it was finally released for consumption.

I am certainly not an aspiring paparazzi, by any stretch of the imagination, and neither am I an artist, but if I'm lucky, I made you smile.

I recommended it in my journal an age or so ago, so quite a few of you may recognize it, but it’s certainly worth a re-read. Despite appearances and my own personal predilection, it is not slash, but it does feature a domineering Casey and a very confused Chuck, which is always a fun and entertaining combination.

Correct me if I'm wrong (please!) but the "Caramel Macchiato" that I got at Starbucks today was technically a latte macchiato and not an actual macchiato, yes? Because a macchiato is supposed to be espresso "stained" with steamed milk, and what I had was more like steamed milk "stained" with espresso (and drizzled with caramel.)

On the employment front:

Freeport interview went well, but not as well as it might have. I think she'll offer me a position, but I doubt it will be a shift lead. So, I will have to see whether the tips make it worth my while or not.

Unless.

I called Target today, and the Personnel manager wasn't in. She'll be in tomorrow, and I'm going to call and 'check whether my application is still active in the system' and mention that a) I heard they were in need of Starbucks help and b) oh by the way I have barista experience and cashier experience. As much as I'd rather work for a local chain than an international one, with gas prices where they are right now it would be in my best interest to work at the shop 20 minutes away instead of the shop an hour away.

Potential employment update:

A former coworker of mine from Hannaford who now appears to be some kind of shift leader at Target told me tonight that their in-store Starbucks is in dire need and I should call personnel and tell them I'm still interested. I think I'll call them tomorrow before I go to the other interview. :D

I think the line, "Well, I do have a line on a position with Starbucks, but I'd much rather work for a locally-owned small chain," sounds pretty good, don't you? (And then, if I get a Target interview, "Well, I'm currently being considered for a position with Coffee By Design..." etc.)

I must sleep soon. Too much pollen and not enough sleep makes Fia a cranky girl.

Potential employment!

The night before last, I got an email from the owner of a local coffeehouse chain (based in Portland) that is opening a shop inside the flagship L.L. Bean store in Freeport shortly. She was responding to my Craigslist ad (posted a month ago under resumes/jobs wanted -- "Enthusiastic and Experienced Barista: I am a coffee enthusiast with a passion for the perfect latte, looking for employment in the Augusta/Gardiner area. Please contact me for a resume and references. Decent steam wand is a must; all other terms negotiable.") and wanted to know if I was interested in commuting. I talked it over with my parents and they agree that it's a great opportunity; the potential for tips in Freeport in the summer is... amazing, really. So I just emailed her to let her know I'm interested and will send along a resume shortly.

[edit] Job interview tomorrow at noon!!!

Allergies suck.

While I appreciate all your kind concern for my swelling-shut eyes and throat after my post this morning (yes, that is the weight of truly heavy sarcasm you are feeling right now) I am feeling marginally better tonight. At home with the kitties, with Zyrtec in my system and preparing to go to bed early (for me) after not sleeping at all last night.

Highlights of the day, which came in between crippling allergy attacks, include hanging out with Tim in Lewiston-Auburn and a laundry list of inexpensive but extremely pleasing purchases:

black t-shirt bearing a rainbow and the inscription "Come out, come out, wherever you are"

sticker featuring two men (like on restroom signs) holding hands

previously viewed DVD of "The Thirst" starring Adam Baldwin

bargain bin DVD of "Without a Paddle" starring Seth Green

elephant-shaped glasses holder

my favorite microwave popcorn -- Orville Redenbacher's Naturals in Buttery Garlic -- for half the price I pay for it usually

my favorite granola bars -- Fiber One in Oats and Caramel, which tastes more like butterscotch to me -- also nearly half price (they happen to by my mom's and sister's favorite, too)

did I mention Zyrtec, zomg?

Yeah, I'm just gonna go collapse now, k?

Okay, so the attempt at a kitty sleepover has gone badly. Kaylee and Zoe are closed up in my friend's mom's room, growling at each other, and something has affected my allergies so badly that I can barely breathe. I have one very puffy-looking and itchy-feeling eye, and I couldn't sleep because I was afraid my throat would close the rest of the way up. I did not think I would be wishing I was at home right now, but I kind of want to take some Benadryl and hibernate for a couple days.

Zach Levi on NBC’s Today

Originally published at The Intersect. Please leave any comments there.

Zach Levi shared a stage this morning with the lovely, charming Hoda Kotb and the scary, erratic Kathie Lee Gifford. He was very gracious about being accidentally called “Chuck Levi” by Kotb when introduced before the break, offering the camera a brief, strange look before breaking out into his trademark ear-to-ear megawatt smile.

Upon returning, the ladies pointed out that Chuck is always keeping secrets. Is Levi good at keeping secrets? He says yes, but only when they’re important. When it comes to surprises, however, he tends to be too eager for people to experience and enjoy them and ends up spilling the beans.

On the topic of the beard (shown at right), which Today’s writers called “yucky” on the cue cards, Levi said that as an actor, he rarely gets the chance to experiment with facial hair, and the break seemed like the perfect time to find out the answer to a question he’d had for a long time: could he grow a Grizzly Adams beard like the one his father had when he was growing up? Having not seen Levi’s beard at its scraggliest, I’d say the answer is a tentative, “Yes.”

When asked if he’s currently seeing anyone, Levi answered, “I’m dating my X-Box.”

Chuck season two begins filming on May 23 and returns to the air in September. Chuck season one is due out on DVD in August.

Don't freak out -- it's just a Chuck friending meme!

I've seen friending memes in a lot of other fandoms, and participated in more than my fair share, but it came to my attention recently that though a lot of people are loving on Chuck, not many of them know each other. So here goes. If you don't know how they work, you just copy/paste the questionnaire into a comment, fill out your answers, and if you see any other comments that make you say, "How am I not friends with this person already?!" you friend them. I believe SOP generally involves asking first, but while I can't speak for everyone I've never been offended to be randomly friended. Startled and occasionally awed, but not offended. I am, however, more likely to friend back if I know who you are, and I think that's probably common.

Name:
Age:
Favorite character:
Least favorite character:
Favorite pairing/OTP:
Anti-'ship:
Favorite episode/scene/quote:
Other fandoms/pairings you enjoy/are involved in:

And yeah, I know I listed pairing and anti-'ship, but if you are a gen fan, please don't let that scare you off! We want to be friends with you, too.

[edit] And hey, once you're done, feel free to pimp it around. :D

This time I'm REALLY going to bed. No, really.

So, apparently the owner of that site I mentioned is not interested in my help. *shrugs* I'm slightly offended, partly because of the terse manner in which I was brushed off, and partly because it took a lot of icky maturity for me to get over the last time I offered to help her out and she brushed me off, to offer to help her out this time. I'm torn between hoping the site fails because she was too proud, or whatever, to let me help, and hoping she does find suitable new hosting, because it really is a very important resource for the fandom.

But my computer is fixed, and so I am a mostly happy camper nonetheless. And this time I am really going to bed, it's just that as soon as I made the last post, the malware scanner dinged at me and told me it had found my nasty wee beasties and eradicated them and so I was able to blog successfully and yes. Goodnight. Er, morning. Whatever.

Chuck versus… Captain America?

From Jayne, the resident Big Damn Mercenary in the short-lived cult series Firefly and its sequel film Serenity, to Hamilton, Angel’s evil demon-in-designer-duds, he’s collected fanboys and fangirls at every turn. Even Stargate fans have a claim on him, thanks to a particularly gut-wrenching two-part episode of the original series, SG-1. He’s even been the voice of Superman in the animated film Superman: Doomsday, opposite fellow Angel alum James Marsters’ Lex Luthor.

But now, according to HMogul, Baldwin is set to take his superhero gig to the big screen in The Avengers, filling the role of Captain America (as vacated by the late Heath Ledger.) No word yet on just how Captain America returns to life after his death in Captain America: Destiny. Here’s hoping that filming doesn’t interfere with Baldwin’s scheduled appearance at Dragon*Con ‘08, because this blogger was only one of many disappointed fans when scheduling conflicts forced him to back out of the Atlanta, GA convention in 2006 and 2007.

While I run YET ANOTHER scan on my computer...

So, a few months ago I offered to host a mirror site for a certain popular fandom resource site. I received a rather brusque response, saying that they were doing just fine on their own and had no need for a mirror site. Today I found out that unless said site receives enough donations to cover their operating costs, they're closing up shop at the end of the month. After debating for a while -- weighing my own butthurt over their dismissal of my previous offer against the fandom's need for this specific resource -- I extended the offer again, either to host a mirror site or provide the primary hosting. I have more bandwidth than Paul Bunyon could shake an oak at, and if they're using enough to fill my gargantuan allotment, then they SERIOUSLY need to crack down on hotlinking. I've yet to receive a response, but I'd like to hope that the site's owner(s) are willing to swallow their pride, as I have, and accept my offer.

It looks like my day tomorrow is going to include a trip to visit the <s>Nerd Herd</s> Geek Squad, because not only does my problem have Norton, AdAware, Spybot and me baffled, but it appears to also have tejas and bradthedog baffled as well. I'm running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware right now, but it seems to be pretty baffled too. I have officially been Irene DeMova'd, without the porn! Since my laptop was from <s>Buy More</s> Best Buy, they should be willing to help me out, right? Is it bad form to fangirl the Geeks in their natural habitat?

My sister and I bought our mom a gift certificate for an hour-long massage at a salon near her work for Mother's Day. The girl who sold it to us lavished us with praise for being good daughters; I wanted to scream "IT WAS MY IDEA! SHE WANTED TO COUNT THE LAWN CLIPPING MULCHER AS MOM'S PRESENT!" but I didn't. I also got Mom flowers (purple and yellow, including an iris because purple is her favorite color, and I remembered her talking about how pretty a bouquet she saw Wednesday with an iris in it was, because it looked like a bird.) We also hit every RedBox in Augusta in search of a copy of P.S. I Love You (because Mom expressed a desire to see it) but everyone else must have the same idea. I'm currently debating making a card for my sister from her dog, but since I don't think Kaylee and Zoe have had any help from their auntie in doing something similar for me, I'm feeling less than inclined to bother. I'm tired of putting so much effort into making my family happy when they can't be bothered to treat me like a person. My mom is the exception only because it's Mother's Day.

OMG, that's <s>Princible Flutie</s> <s>Company Bob</s> Stephen Tobolowsky and Wendie Malick in this short film on LOGO! I'd Google them to find the title (because it's on The Click List, and I missed the opening) but Google is still actively spurning me. I recognize at least one of the other two guys, too, but I'm not sure from where. I tried searching IMDB for things that Stephen Tobolowsky and Wendie Malick were in together, but none of them was this (most of them had to do with some cartoon.) I don't think short films make it on there very often, though.

Seriously, though, if it is ever proven that I am not a horribly barren wretch, and any of you are asked by my girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife/life partner or my child/children what to get me for Mother's Day, I will eviscerate the first one to suggest something practical, like a blender. Or a lawn clipping mulcher. I'm heading to bed now, but first I want to wish all the moms on my f-list a happy Mother's Day, and I hope you get something frivolous, indulgent and delightful. ♥

Does anyone know anything about some kind of anti-Google malware that Norton, AdAware and Spybot might not detect? I'd Google it, but...

[edit] Apparently Yahoo is also affected. Yahoo isn't part of the <s>Borg</s> Google collective, is it?

[edit 2] And ask.com; whatever it is seems to be keeping me from accessing search engines.
